• The books in order: The Deal, The Mistake, The Score, The Goal and The Legacy, followed by the Briar U and Campus Diaries series.

Dean Di Laurentis, the blond, cocky hockey player of Off Campus, is played by Stephen Kalyn, and the show’s second season belongs to him. Prime Video has made Dean and Allie Hayes, played by Mika Abdalla, the lead couple of Season 2.

Here’s who Kalyn is, what happens to Dean in Elle Kennedy’s books and the order to read the whole series in.

Who plays Dean in Off Campus?

Kalyn grew up playing hockey and went to drama camps when he wasn’t on the ice. He told Who What Wear that he landed Dean after a three-hour chemistry read, and that he found out on a Zoom call from his parents’ basement, surrounded by his hockey gear.

Before Off Campus, his credits included Gen V, Cruel Intentions and Motorheads. Next, he joins Sydney Sweeney and Kirsten Dunst in Lionsgate’s The Housemaid’s Secret, as Brock, the lawyer boyfriend of Sweeney’s Millie. It’s set to open in theaters on Dec. 17, 2027.

Who is Dean in the Off Campus books?

In the books he’s Dean Heyward-Di Laurentis, Garrett Graham’s teammate and the biggest flirt on campus. In The Score, he shares a night with Allie, Hannah’s best friend, and for the first time wants more than a one-night stand. Allie doesn’t.

His younger sister, Summer, joins the show in Season 2, played by Shay Rudolph of Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club. In the books, she gets her own story: The Chase, the first Briar U novel.

What happens with Dean and Allie in Season 2?

Season 1 ended with Dean learning that Allie had hooked up with Hunter Davenport (Charlie Evans), a rival who joins the Briar Hawks in Season 2. The new season picks up in the middle of Dean and Hunter’s fight.

Creator and showrunner Louisa Levy said the team is excited to make Allie and Dean’s story “our primary romance of Season 2,” and that Garrett (Belmont Cameli) and Hannah (Ella Bright) remain an “integral part” of the show.

India Fowler joins as Grace Ivers, John Logan’s love interest, and Phillipa Soo as Scarlett, a theater artist guest-directing a play at Briar. Josh Heuston, who played Justin, won’t be back.

The eight episodes were filmed in Vancouver from June 1 to Sept. 18; Prime Video hasn’t set a premiere date, and reports point to 2027.

What order should you read the Off Campus books in?

Kennedy wrote Off Campus as four books, one for each of four hockey players who share an off-campus house, then added a fifth. Each book follows a different couple, which is why the show can skip ahead, the way Bridgerton does, a comparison Levy has made herself.

Read The Legacy last no matter what: Kennedy calls it an extended epilogue for all four couples.

After that come the four Briar U books (The Chase, The Risk, The Play and The Dare), about more of the Briar hockey crowd, and Campus Diaries, which follows the original couples’ kids, starting with The Graham Effect.

Levy told TheWrap she has plans for “the first four books, absolutely.” Antonio Cipriano, who plays Logan, has said he’s ready to lead a third season.

How big is Off Campus?

Big enough that Prime Video renewed it in February, three months before it premiered on May 13. It drew 36 million viewers in its first 12 days, the third-biggest series debut in the streamer’s history, behind The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and Fallout.

All eight episodes of Season 1 are streaming on Prime Video.
