Privacy policy

This page explains what FameCrumbs collects when you read the site or write to us, why, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Reading the site

  • No account, no sign-up. You can read everything on FameCrumbs without giving us any personal information.
  • Server logs: like any website, our hosting provider records technical data such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix errors.
  • Audience measurement: we use Ahrefs Web Analytics to count visits and see which stories are read and where readers come from. It sets no cookies, does not track you across sites or devices, and shows us only aggregated numbers, never who you are. Ahrefs processes that data under its own privacy policy.
  • Google Analytics: we also use Google Analytics to see which pages are read, how readers arrive (including from Google Search) and how they move through the site. It uses cookies to tell a new visit from a returning one, and Google collects data such as the pages you view, your browser and device, the site that sent you and an approximate location derived from your IP address. We see only aggregated reports, never who you are. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, these cookies are set only if you consent. Google processes that data under its privacy policy, and you can stop it on every site with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Advertising: FameCrumbs may use Google AdSense to show ads. When ads are shown, Google and other third-party vendors may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and to other websites, to limit how often you see the same ad and to measure how ads perform. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on those visits. How Google handles that data is explained in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
  • Shopping links: some stories link to stores, including Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, FameCrumbs earns from qualifying purchases. If you follow one of those links, the store may record that your visit came from FameCrumbs, on its own site and under its own privacy policy. We never see what you buy or who you are.
  • Your preferences: if you switch between light and dark mode, that choice is stored in your own browser (local storage). It never reaches us.
  • Embedded posts and videos: some stories embed content from platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or X. When a story loads one, that platform may collect data under its own privacy policy.

Your ad choices

  • Personalized ads: you can turn off personalized ads from Google in My Ad Center, and from other participating vendors at aboutads.info. You will still see ads, but they won’t be based on your browsing.
  • Europe, the UK and Switzerland: when ads are shown, readers there are asked for consent before any personalized ad, through a consent message certified by Google. You can change that choice at any time from the privacy link on the page.
  • California and other US states with privacy laws: showing ads based on your browsing can count as “selling” or “sharing” personal information under those laws. When ads are shown, you can opt out with the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link on the page.

Writing to us

When you use the contact form, we receive your name, email, the link you mention and your message. We use them only to read, verify and reply. We do not share them for any other purpose, and we do not add you to any mailing list.

Your message is stored on our site and forwarded to the FameCrumbs desk by Resend, an email delivery service that processes it only to deliver it, under its own privacy policy. We keep messages for up to 24 months, or longer when they concern an open matter such as a correction, a right of reply or a copyright notice.

What we do not do

We do not sell or rent your name, email or anything you send us. If ads are shown, the only data used for advertising is what the ad cookies described above collect, and you can opt out of it as explained in “Your ad choices.” If we add another advertising or analytics service, this page will be updated before it happens and will name the service.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — including under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) where they apply. Send the request through the contact page. We will not treat you differently for making it.

Children

FameCrumbs is a general-audience news site and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
