Carrot Top Hospitalized in Las Vegas; Friday’s Luxor Show Canceled

The 8 p.m. show did not go on. Carrot Top, 61, was hospitalized in Las Vegas on Friday, Sept. 18, and the Luxor canceled the performance he has headlined six nights a week for almost 21 years.

His representative, Jami Schlicher, said in a statement that the comedian is recovering and being cared for. The statement does not address what put him there.

What happened to Carrot Top?

Thompson was taken to a Las Vegas hospital on Friday, and the Luxor pulled that night’s 8 p.m. performance. His rep confirmed the hospitalization hours after the first report.

Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs. His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy.

Thompson has not commented publicly. Neither the Luxor nor MGM Resorts has said whether the rest of the week’s shows will go on.

How long has Carrot Top headlined the Luxor?

Since Nov. 22, 2005. The show is billed as the longest-running headliner residency on the Las Vegas Strip, and Thompson marked 20 years in the city in November 2025.

It runs Monday through Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Luxor’s Atrium Showroom, a room of about 800 seats, and lasts 75 to 80 minutes. Six nights a week, every week.

A Vegas residency is not a tour. The resort books a headliner into one of its own rooms, sells the tickets through its own box office and fills the seats from the traffic already on the casino floor.

That is why a canceled night works differently here. There is no date to make up on the way to the next city. The resort refunds or rebooks the ticket holders, and the room stays dark until the headliner is back.

Who is Carrot Top?

Scott Christopher Thompson, born Feb. 25, 1965, in Rockledge, Florida. The act is prop comedy: trunks hauled onstage and emptied one object at a time, each one built by hand for a single one-liner.

He won the American Comedy Award for Best Male Stand-Up Comic in 1994. Before Las Vegas he was on television constantly, producing and starring in Carrot Top’s AM Mayhem from 1994 to 1996 and announcing between shows on Cartoon Network from 1995 to 1999. He played himself in The Hangover in 2009.

Carrot Top’s show at the Luxor’s Atrium Showroom is scheduled Monday through Saturday at 8 p.m. The Luxor has not said whether this week’s remaining performances will go on. This story is developing.
