Carrot Top Hospitalized in Las Vegas; Friday’s Luxor Show Canceled

• Update, Sept. 20: he is awake and breathing on his own, his representative says, and has been joking with the medical staff.
• Carrot Top, 61, was hospitalized in Las Vegas on Friday, Sept. 18. His Luxor shows on Friday, Saturday and Monday are all canceled.
• TMZ, which first reported the hospitalization on Friday evening, said it followed a suicide attempt. The rep’s statement does not address a cause.
• Update, Sept. 21: his lawyers say he had been the target of extortion by a man suing him in Florida, who denies it. The allegations in that suit have not been tested in court.

The 8 p.m. show did not go on. Carrot Top, 61, was hospitalized in Las Vegas on Friday, Sept. 18, and the Luxor canceled the performance he has headlined six nights a week for almost 21 years.

Two days later his representative, Jami Schlicher, said he is awake. The statement still does not address what put him there.

How is Carrot Top now?

Awake, breathing without help and improving, according to the statement his rep issued on Sunday, Sept. 20.

Scott remains hospitalized and under close medical care. He is now awake, breathing on his own and continuing to improve, surrounded by his family and those closest to him.

The rep added two details that say more than the medical ones: he has been joking with the staff caring for him, and he has been reading messages from fans — including, the statement says, accounts from people describing how his comedy helped them through hard periods of their own.

Monday night’s show at the Luxor is canceled too, on top of Friday’s and Saturday’s.

What happened to Carrot Top?

Thompson was taken to a Las Vegas hospital on Friday, and the Luxor pulled that night’s 8 p.m. performance. His rep confirmed the hospitalization hours after the first report.

Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs. His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy.

Thompson has not commented publicly himself. Neither the Luxor nor MGM Resorts has said when the residency resumes.

What is the lawsuit against Carrot Top?

His hospitalization came six weeks into a civil fight that his lawyers now describe as extortion. In early August, Brian Evans, a former opening act who is representing himself, sued Thompson in Broward County, Florida.

The suit alleges Thompson sent him an unsolicited sexual video in 2022 or 2023, causing him “severe emotional distress.”

Thompson’s lawyers filed an email in which Evans asked for $500,000 “in immediately available funds,” or he would submit an explicit recording in the case.

“This is not settlement communication,” the lawyers wrote. “On its face it is a malicious threat to expose Thompson to disgrace.” They also noted that a court elsewhere has declared Evans a vexatious litigant.

Evans calls it “a final settlement proposal,” not a threat, and says the recording was deleted long ago under an earlier settlement between the two.

A second man has since made allegations of his own in a public statement, including that Thompson gave him alcohol when he was 19.

None of the allegations has been tested in court, and no criminal charges have been filed.

How long has Carrot Top headlined the Luxor?

Since Nov. 22, 2005. The show is billed as the longest-running headliner residency on the Las Vegas Strip, and Thompson marked 20 years in the city in November 2025.

It runs Monday through Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Luxor’s Atrium Showroom, a room of about 800 seats, and lasts 75 to 80 minutes. Six nights a week, every week.

A Vegas residency is not a tour. The resort books a headliner into one of its own rooms, sells the tickets through its own box office and fills the seats from the traffic already on the casino floor.

That is why a canceled night works differently here. There is no date to make up on the way to the next city. The resort refunds or rebooks the ticket holders, and the room stays dark until the headliner is back.

Who is Carrot Top?

Scott Christopher Thompson, born Feb. 25, 1965, in Rockledge, Florida. The act is prop comedy: trunks hauled onstage and emptied one object at a time, each one built by hand for a single one-liner.

He won the American Comedy Award for Best Male Stand-Up Comic in 1994. Before Las Vegas he was on television constantly, producing and starring in Carrot Top’s AM Mayhem from 1994 to 1996 and announcing between shows on Cartoon Network from 1995 to 1999. He played himself in The Hangover in 2009.

Carrot Top’s show at the Luxor’s Atrium Showroom is scheduled Monday through Saturday at 8 p.m. The Luxor has not said whether this week’s remaining performances will go on. This story is developing.
