Hailey Bieber Wears Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s Rehearsal Dinner Dress

• Hailey Bieber, 29, wore the champagne slip dress that Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy wore to her wedding rehearsal dinner in 1996, to a dinner at Harry’s Bar in London on Monday, Sept. 28.
• It is a Cerruti by Narciso Rodriguez slip from spring 1997. The vintage dealer that sourced it, My Runway Archive, said it is “one and the same” as Bessette-Kennedy’s dress.
• It is not her wedding gown, which was a pearl silk crepe dress, also by Rodriguez.

Hailey Bieber wore a piece of fashion history to dinner in London. The model and founder of Rhode, 29, stepped out on Monday, Sept. 28, in the champagne slip that Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy wore to her wedding rehearsal dinner in September 1996, before she married John F. Kennedy Jr.

What did Hailey Bieber wear in London?

A champagne-colored, bias-cut slip dress with a V-neckline and an embroidered, net-like texture. Her stylist, Dani Michelle, posted photos of the look on Instagram with a one-line caption: “that 1997 cerruti by narciso @haileybieber.”

The occasion was a dinner at Harry’s Bar in Mayfair to celebrate the opening of the London office of OBB Media, the entertainment company led by Michael D. Ratner. The evening also marked Rhode’s partnership with OBB.

Guests included Stanley Tucci and Sacha Baron Cohen. Bieber then headed to Paris for fashion week.

She wore her hair in loose waves with a berry lip. Bessette-Kennedy famously wore the slip with her hair pulled back in a bun.

Is it really Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s dress?

Two things back it up. My Runway Archive, the vintage designer dealer that sourced the dress about two weeks earlier, confirmed on Instagram that the two dresses were “one and the same.” Dani Michelle’s caption names the label, the designer and the year.

What hasn’t been said is how the archive traced it, or whether this is the garment Bessette-Kennedy herself wore or another piece of the same design from the collection. Neither the stylist’s post nor the coverage of the look settles that.

What is the story behind the dress?

Narciso Rodriguez designed it as creative director of Cerruti, and it appears in the label’s spring 1997 collection. Bessette-Kennedy wore it at her rehearsal dinner on Cumberland Island, off the coast of Georgia, ahead of the wedding on Sept. 21, 1996.

Rodriguez was a close friend. They met in 1990, when both worked at Calvin Klein, and he went on to design her wedding gown: a bias-cut slip in pearl-colored silk crepe, completed with gloves, a veil and shoes. The rehearsal dress is a different piece.

It was very personal for me. It wasn’t a press event, it was a conversation between two people who were very close.

Why is Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s style in the news again?

Mostly because of television. FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette premiered on Feb. 12, 2026, and dramatizes the couple’s romance. An episode on March 5 covered the wedding, with actor Tonatiuh playing Rodriguez.
