Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski Split After Nine Years of Marriage

“We have been separated for a while, and it’s proven to be the right move for us and our family unit,” the couple said in a joint statement. “We’ve got each other forever — and it’s GOOD.”

Why did Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski split?

They did not say. The statement gives no cause, names no third party and does not describe a breaking point. What it does establish is timing: the separation happened well before the announcement.

That gap matters for how the story reads. A couple that confirms a split months after the fact has already done the negotiating in private, which is usually why the wording comes out joint and calm.

Nothing else about it is confirmed. No filing has been reported in a court that either has acknowledged, and neither has posted about it beyond the statement. Anything about a cause is inference, including the version you will see attributed to unnamed friends.

How did Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski meet?

At work, twice. They first acted together in 2015 in the off-Broadway play The Way We Get By, then again in The Last Word, the comedy-drama released in March 2017 in which she played a small-town obituary writer.

Sadoski’s first marriage, to casting executive Kimberly Hope, ended in divorce in October 2015. He and Seyfried began dating in early 2016.

When did they get married?

On March 12, 2017, six months after he proposed on Sept. 12, 2016. The ceremony was small and unannounced, and the reason for the hurry showed up 12 days later.

Nina was born on March 24, 2017. Their son, Thomas Jr., followed in September 2020 — which makes the marriage almost exactly as long as their daughter has been alive.

Here is the whole thing in order: co-stars in 2015, together in early 2016, engaged that September, married in March 2017, a daughter 12 days later, a son in 2020, separated at some point before Sept. 15, 2026.

Are Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski getting divorced?

Neither has said so. “Separated” is the word they chose, and in most U.S. states it carries no legal weight on its own — a couple is married until one of them files and a court signs off.

California, where Seyfried has worked for most of her career, requires six months from the date of service before a divorce can be finalized, no matter how much the two agree. So even a filing today would not end the marriage before 2027.

Seyfried won an Emmy in 2022 for The Dropout and was Oscar-nominated for Mank. Sadoski played Don Keefer on The Newsroom and Matt Short on Life in Pieces, and sits on the board of the aid group INARA.
