Brittany Mahomes Apologizes for ‘a Lot of Bad Words’ at Chiefs Game

• Brittany Mahomes apologized on Instagram for screaming “a lot of bad words” during the Chiefs’ 33-30 overtime win over the Colts on Sunday, Sept. 20.
• The apology went to her friend, influencer Dani Austin Ramirez, who watched the game with her in the family suite at Arrowhead Stadium.
• Patrick Mahomes went 32 of 37 for 382 yards and three touchdowns, and led the drive that set up Harrison Butker’s winning kick.

Suite etiquette, Mahomes-style. Brittany Mahomes, 31, spent Sunday night’s Chiefs-Colts game at Arrowhead Stadium, and by the end of it she owed somebody an apology.

After Kansas City beat Indianapolis 33-30 in overtime on Sunday Night Football, she reposted a photo of herself with Dani Austin Ramirez in the suite. Her caption, on her Instagram Stories:

Sorry you had to hear me scream and say a lot of bad words for several hours.

A second story, a video from the stadium, was shorter: “That was a game wow.”

What happened in the Chiefs-Colts game?

It was close enough that “several hours” is not much of an exaggeration. Colts running back Jonathan Taylor scored twice, the second time on a 5-yard run that tied it at 27 in the fourth quarter.

The call fans were still arguing about on Monday came on a 48-yard catch by Colts receiver Laquon Treadwell. It was first ruled a fumble, then overturned on replay, which kept the drive alive and put Indianapolis in field goal range. Spencer Shrader‘s kick made it 30-30.

In overtime, Colts coach Shane Steichen won the toss and chose to kick off rather than receive.

“If we go first with it, Mahomes gets four downs going the other way,” Steichen said after the game. “We wanted to play defense there.”

It did not work. Patrick Mahomes found Tyquan Thornton for 30 yards on third-and-12, and Harrison Butker‘s 40-yard field goal won it. Mahomes finished 32 of 37 for 382 yards, with touchdown passes to Travis Kelce, Xavier Worthy and Jalen Royals.

Who is Brittany Mahomes?

Brittany Mahomes, born Brittany Matthews, grew up with Patrick in East Texas; the two started dating in high school. She played college soccer at UT Tyler and briefly played professionally in Iceland.

She is a co-owner of the Kansas City Current, the NWSL team whose stadium opened in 2024 as the first built for a women’s professional team. The couple married on March 12, 2022. Both are 31; Patrick turned 31 on Sept. 17.

• Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, born Nov. 28, 2022. He is 3.

Sterling and Bronze are regulars in the stands and on the field after home wins. In the 2024 interview, Brittany said both have food allergies, and that the family has had to “remove stuff” from stadium suites because of it.
