Lady Gaga’s Baby Name: Why ‘Rose Bean’ Points Back to ‘Born This Way’
Gaga's daughter with Michael Polansky was born in June. Her name, revealed by a birth certificate, lines up with two songs Gaga has built her career on.

- Lady Gaga and fiancé Michael Polansky’s daughter is Rose Bean Polansky, born June 9 in Los Angeles, according to a birth certificate obtained by TMZ and E! News.
- Gaga, 40, never announced a pregnancy and hasn’t commented on the baby or the name.
- Both halves match her own history: “Rose” her “La Vie en Rose” tattoo, “Bean” the singer she credits for “Born This Way,” Carl Bean.
Lady Gaga’s daughter has a name, and it reads like a note to her own catalog: Rose Bean Polansky, according to a birth certificate obtained by TMZ and E! News on Thursday (Sept. 17).
The baby was born June 9 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Gaga, 40, never announced a pregnancy. The birth first surfaced on Sept. 11, when she, Polansky and the baby were spotted together in Northern California.
Neither Gaga nor Polansky, 42, has said anything publicly about their daughter, and reps didn’t comment on the birth certificate. The couple has been engaged since 2024 and hasn’t announced a wedding.
Why does Rose Bean link to ‘Born This Way’?
Through Carl Bean. The gospel singer recorded “I Was Born This Way” for Motown in 1977, an openly gay disco anthem released 34 years before Gaga’s 2011 hit of nearly the same name.
Gaga has named him as the source herself. “Born This Way, my song and album, were inspired by Carl Bean, a gay black religious activist who preached, sung and wrote about being ‘Born This Way,'” she wrote on X in May 2021, for the album’s 10th anniversary.
Bean became an archbishop, founded the Unity Fellowship Church Movement and started the Minority AIDS Project in Los Angeles in the 1980s. He died on Sept. 7, 2021, at 77, less than four months after her post.

Where does the name Rose come from?
The likeliest answer is “La Vie en Rose.” Gaga sang the Édith Piaf standard as Ally in A Star Is Born (2018), in the drag-bar scene where Bradley Cooper’s Jackson Maine first sees her.
She liked it enough to wear it. On Feb. 14, 2019, she showed off a new tattoo: a rose running up her spine, with the words “La Vie en Rose.”
The song also got her the part. Cooper has said he knew he wanted her after watching her sing it in April 2016, at a party for the launch of the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy — an institute whose board Polansky now sits on.

Has Lady Gaga talked about being a mom?
Yes, before Rose was born. “I’m excited to be a mom. I used to have a lot of apprehension about it,” she told The New York Times in March 2025.
“The thing that’s the most important to me is to not force my children to live a life that they are not choosing,” she said in the same interview.
Who is Michael Polansky?
Polansky is a tech entrepreneur and investor from Minnesota who studied applied math and computer science at Harvard. He runs the Parker Foundation, which he co-founded with Sean Parker in 2015.
He and Gaga went public in 2020, and she introduced him as her fiancé at the Paris Olympics in July 2024. He is also in her credits: Polansky co-wrote and co-produced songs on her 2025 album Mayhem, including “Disease” and “Vanish Into You.”
More on her is on Lady Gaga’s page and Michael Polansky’s page, and the latest is in our Celebrities and Music sections. Also this week, Millie Bobby Brown introduced her second baby with a photo of his hand.
The take
Gaga kept a pregnancy and three months of motherhood off the record, and the name got out through a birth certificate, not a post. What it seems to point to, she made public herself: the tattoo, the role, the 2021 credit to Carl Bean. Whether that’s the reason is still hers to say.
