Super Bowl 2027 Halftime Show: Jay-Z Reportedly Picks Himself to Headline

• Jay-Z has chosen himself to headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show on Feb. 14, 2027, according to a report published Monday. Neither he, Roc Nation nor the NFL has confirmed it.
• His company, Roc Nation, has picked every halftime act since a 2019 deal with the NFL. Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber had also been in discussions.
• The game is at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on ABC and ESPN, with streaming on Disney+.

The man who picks the Super Bowl halftime show may have picked himself. Jay-Z, 56, is set to headline Super Bowl LXI at SoFi Stadium on Feb. 14, 2027, Dave Brooks reported for Puck on Monday, Oct. 20.

Multiple sources told Puck that Jay-Z was now favored over Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, who had both been in discussions. Jay-Z and Roc Nation haven’t commented, and the NFL hasn’t named a performer.

Is Jay-Z performing at the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show?

Not officially, yet. Puck reported that he could make the announcement in Los Angeles this week, when he plays SoFi Stadium, the Super Bowl venue, for his JAY-Z30 concert on Friday, Oct. 23. The show marks 30 years since his debut album, Reasonable Doubt.

It would be his first time headlining. His wife, Beyoncé, led the 2013 halftime show in New Orleans and came back three years later as a surprise guest at Super Bowl 50, joining Coldplay and Bruno Mars.

He also hasn’t released a studio album since 4:44 in 2017. In August, Roc Nation called reports that a new one was finished “fake news” in an Instagram story.

At 57 on game day, Jay-Z would be a year older than Dr. Dre was when Dre led the 2022 halftime show in the same stadium.

When is the 2027 Super Bowl, and how can you watch the halftime show?

Super Bowl LXI is on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2027, which is Valentine’s Day, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, home of the Rams and the Chargers. It’s the stadium’s second Super Bowl, after LVI in 2022.

ABC has the game for the first time since Super Bowl XL in 2006, with a simulcast on ESPN, streaming on Disney+ and the ESPN app, and Spanish-language coverage on ESPN Deportes. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman call it.

Kickoff time hasn’t been announced. The last three Super Bowls kicked off at about 6:30 p.m. ET, which put the halftime show at around 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT).

Who picks the Super Bowl halftime performer?

Roc Nation, the entertainment company Jay-Z founded in 2008, signed on as the NFL’s “live music entertainment strategist” in August 2019. The deal covers the halftime show and Inspire Change, the league’s social justice program. Apple Music has sponsored the show since 2023, after Pepsi’s run ended.

The deal came three years after Colin Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem, and Jay-Z was asked about it at the announcement in New York.

He had turned the league down before. On “Apeshit,” from The Carters’ 2018 album Everything Is Love, he rapped that he had said no to the Super Bowl.

The headliner doesn’t get a fee. The NFL covers production and pays union scale, a league spokesperson told Newsweek in 2022. The Weeknd’s manager told Billboard the singer added $7 million of his own money to his 2021 show.

Every Super Bowl halftime headliner since Roc Nation took over

Six of the seven Roc Nation headliners were named by the end of September. The exception was The Weeknd, announced Nov. 12, 2020, during the pandemic season. With no announcement by Oct. 20, this year’s pick is already the second-latest.

The audience keeps growing. Kendrick Lamar‘s 2025 show averaged 133.5 million viewers, a halftime record, the NFL said. Bad Bunny‘s 2026 set, sung mostly in Spanish, drew criticism from some Republicans, including President Trump.
