MarieBelle Cacao Market Truffles at Costco: Roadshow Dates and Prices

A SoHo chocolatier is setting up shop inside Costco for the holidays. Cacao Market by MarieBelle New York, the everyday line of luxury chocolate house MarieBelle, announced on Monday, Sept. 28, that its Dark Chocolate Truffles are now sold at select Costco warehouses in Brooklyn, Long Island, Staten Island and New Jersey.

Each box holds 50 cocoa-dusted truffles for $21.99, and the same box is available through Instacart. Shoppers outside the New York area can order a three-box bundle on Costco.com. Here’s where the brand will be, week by week, and how the prices compare.

Which Costco warehouses have the MarieBelle truffles?

MarieBelle is selling and sampling the truffles through Costco’s Roadshow, a traveling booth that sets up inside one warehouse for a few days and then moves to the next. The brand’s schedule lists Thursday-to-Sunday stops through early December:

How much are the Cacao Market truffles at Costco?

In the warehouses, a 50-piece box is $21.99, which works out to 44 cents a truffle. Each box weighs 15.8 ounces and comes in the line’s patterned packaging, inspired by the artwork of Jacques Lieberman, with a ribbon on top.

Online, Costco.com sells three boxes, 150 truffles in all, as an online-only bundle listed at $84.99 on Monday. That’s about 57 cents a truffle, with standard UPS 2nd Day Air shipping included. Gift messages can be added at checkout; Alaska and Hawaii pay extra shipping, and there’s no delivery to Puerto Rico.

For comparison inside the brand, MarieBelle’s own 20-piece Dark Chocolate Truffle Box, made with Maracaibo chocolate and cream and sold in an embossed box, costs $48 on its website, or $2.40 a piece.

“Bringing our Dark Chocolate Truffles to Costco allows us to introduce more people to high-quality chocolate at a price that makes them perfect for indulging, sharing, or gifting,” Maribel Lieberman, MarieBelle’s founder and CEO, said in the announcement.

Who is Maribel Lieberman, the chocolatier behind MarieBelle?

Lieberman grew up in Honduras, where she sold homemade sugar candies to neighborhood kids at 8 years old, according to her biography on the MarieBelle site. In New York, she studied at Parsons School of Design, worked in fashion and ran a five-year food venture, Maribel’s Gourmet Cuisine, before opening her first shop.

That first shop, Lunettes et Chocolat in Nolita, sold eyeglasses and chocolate side by side. Her MarieBelle flagship opened in SoHo in 2001 and later added the Cacao Bar, a sit-down chocolate bar. MarieBelle says it has also been featured on Oprah’s Favorite Things list.

MarieBelle’s chocolates are handcrafted at the company’s factory in Brooklyn, the brand says. Beyond SoHo, it has boutiques in Manhattan’s Kitano and Pierre hotels and shops in Japan.

The Costco truffles are the Cacao Market kind: a dark ganache center, dusted by hand in cocoa, the brand says. MarieBelle’s short brand film is below.
