Popeyes Honey Chicken Biscuit: What’s in the New $5 Sandwich

• Popeyes launched the Honey Chicken Biscuit on Monday, Sept. 28, at participating U.S. restaurants, in the Popeyes app and on Popeyes.com.

Popeyes has a new $5 sandwich, and its fans more or less wrote the recipe. The Honey Chicken Biscuit, on sale since Monday, Sept. 28, puts the chain’s fried chicken breast on a larger version of its buttermilk biscuit and hands you the honey to pour yourself.

It’s sold at participating Popeyes restaurants nationwide, in the Popeyes app and on Popeyes.com. The price is $5, Popeyes says, though it can vary by location. Here’s what’s in it, what it adds up to and every way to order it.

What’s in the Popeyes Honey Chicken Biscuit?

Three things. The chicken is a breast marinated in Louisiana seasonings and coated in crunchy Southern breading, according to the item’s description on Popeyes’ online menu. It sits on a buttermilk biscuit that Popeyes made bigger than its regular one.

The honey doesn’t come on the sandwich. Two packets of sweet honey sauce ride along on the side, so you decide how much goes on and when. Anyone who wants the chicken and biscuit alone can order it that way: the online menu has a “No Honey” option.

Popeyes pitches the sandwich for any meal of the day, not only breakfast. “It’s simple, it’s unmistakably Popeyes,” Matt Rubin, the chain’s chief marketing officer, said in the announcement, calling it “our craveable chicken, our iconic buttermilk biscuit, and sweet honey sauce, crafted into one new sandwich.”

How many calories are in the Honey Chicken Biscuit?

The sandwich alone has 730 calories, according to the nutrition information on Popeyes’ online menu. That breaks down to 41 grams of fat, 67 grams of carbohydrates, 15 grams of sugar, 3 grams of fiber and 23 grams of protein, with 1,750 milligrams of sodium.

Add-ons change the math. Bacon adds 140 calories and 10 grams of protein, per the same menu, and there’s an option for a slice of cheese. Popeyes hasn’t listed separate prices for either in its announcement.

How do you order it, and is there a combo?

There are four ways to order it on Popeyes.com: the sandwich on its own, a Regular Combo with one regular side and a regular drink, a Medium Combo with a regular side and a medium drink, or a Large Combo with two regular sides and a large drink.

The $5 price is for the sandwich alone. Combo prices depend on the restaurant, and the app shows them once you pick a location. Delivery orders can cost more, since Popeyes notes that delivery terms and fees apply.

Why did Popeyes make a honey chicken biscuit?

Because customers were already building it. In its announcement, Popeyes said fans have long found their own ways to put its chicken and biscuits together with honey and share them on social media. The new sandwich is the kitchen’s official version of that order.

It also arrives during “THAT Chicken from Popeyes,” the chain’s new national ad campaign about the flavor and preparation of its chicken. Popeyes was founded in New Orleans in 1972 and has more than 4,000 restaurants in the U.S. and around the world. Its 15-second launch film is below.
