‘Marshals’ Season 2: Premiere Date, Time, Cast and How to Watch

Back in the saddle. Marshals, the Yellowstone spinoff starring Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, returns for Season 2 on Sunday, Oct. 4, on CBS. The premiere starts half an hour later than the show’s usual slot: 8:30 p.m. ET, 8 p.m. PT.
It opens CBS’s fall premiere week, and Kayce spends the night trying to get his son back. Here’s the schedule, what happens, who’s in the cast and which Paramount+ plan lets you watch it live.
When does ‘Marshals’ Season 2 premiere, and why at 8:30?
Sunday, Oct. 4, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. ET and 8 to 9 p.m. PT. The later East Coast start comes from football: CBS has an NFL doubleheader that afternoon, so 60 Minutes runs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. ET instead of 7 to 8, and the rest of the night slides back 30 minutes.
Tracker, which follows Marshals, starts its fourth season at 9:30 p.m. ET the same night. From Sunday, Oct. 11, both shows are back in their regular slots, with Marshals at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
What happens in the ‘Marshals’ Season 2 premiere?
The episode is called “All Hat No Cattle.” In CBS’s description, Kayce realizes his son, Tate, has been taken hostage and “goes rogue in a desperate race to save his son,” while the Marshals uncover a criminal operation tied to the East Camp land grab.
Showrunner Spencer Hudnut wrote the premiere, and Christopher Chulack directed it. CBS’s photos from the episode also include Ellyn Jameson, who played rancher’s daughter Dolly Weaver in Season 1, and guest stars Chris Mulkey and Kevin McNamara.
Episode 2, “End of Watch,” airs Oct. 11. A former cop goes on a killing spree against the people he blames for ending his career, and one of the Marshals ends up in his sights. Morgan Lindholm returns as Maddie.
The same episode has Thomas Rainwater facing backlash over his leadership on the reservation and Belle struggling to keep her family life together. The trailer CBS released for the season is below.

The new name is a familiar one. Jefferson White joins in a recurring role as Jimmy Hurdstrom, the Yellowstone ranch hand who, in CBS’s words, evolved “from a troubled criminal into a resilient, proud cowboy.”

One Yellowstone face won’t be back. The Season 1 premiere revealed that Kayce’s wife, Monica, had died of cancer between the end of Yellowstone and the start of Marshals, and Kelsey Asbille isn’t in the cast.

How can you watch ‘Marshals’ Season 2?
Live on your local CBS station, with an antenna, cable or a live TV service that carries CBS. On Paramount+, it depends on the plan. Premium, $13.99 a month, streams your local CBS feed, so the episode plays as it airs.
Essential, $8.99 a month with ads, doesn’t carry CBS live; each new episode shows up on demand the day after it airs. Season 1’s 13 episodes, which ran from March 1 to May 24, are on Paramount+ too.
Do you need to watch ‘Yellowstone’ first?
No. Paramount+ describes Marshals as “a continuation of Kayce’s Yellowstone journey, but a narratively independent show.” Rainwater, Mo and Tate carry over; the rest of the Dutton family gets mentioned, not seen.
Season 1 averaged 19.3 million viewers an episode, counting 35 days of TV and streaming, which CBS says made it the No. 1 new series on television. Season 2 started filming on June 8 in Park City, Utah, standing in for Montana.
