Diddy Moved to a Pennsylvania Prison: What It Means for His Release Date

Sean Combs left FCI Fort Dix for FCI Allenwood Low after a report on cognac, massages and a contraband phone, a stint in solitary and a hospital trip. Why the Bureau of Prisons moves inmates, and why he now gets out in March 2028.

  • Sean “Diddy” Combs, 56, was moved on Friday, Oct. 16, from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey to FCI Allenwood Low, a low-security federal prison in Pennsylvania.
  • The Bureau of Prisons confirmed the transfer but not the reason. It followed a report on perks he allegedly paid for behind bars, time in solitary and a hospital visit.
  • He lost 41 days of good-conduct credit. His release date is now March 2, 2028.

Sean “Diddy” Combs has a new address in the federal prison system. On Friday, Oct. 16, the Bureau of Prisons moved the 56-year-old from FCI Fort Dix, in New Jersey, to FCI Allenwood Low, in central Pennsylvania, about 155 miles west of New York City.

The agency confirmed the move and said it does not discuss “conditions of confinement for any individual in our custody, including reasons for transfer.”

Why was Diddy moved to a new prison?

The Bureau of Prisons won’t say. The transfer caps three weeks of trouble. On Sept. 29, an NBC News investigation reported that Combs was paying other inmates, through money deposited in their commissary accounts, to cook for him, clean, make his bed and give him massages.

The same report said he had smuggled-in cognac, a contraband phone and a modified tablet. The network published footage it says shows him inside Fort Dix. Combs’s spokesperson said the media was treating ordinary prison life as news.

Combs was then placed in the special housing unit, the segregated wing for inmates under investigation or discipline, and was still there as of Oct. 8. According to the Los Angeles Times, he was taken to a hospital on Oct. 10 with a head injury that was not life-threatening.

A report that he was hurt in a fight with another inmate was denied by the Bureau of Prisons, which called it “false.” His team welcomed the transfer:

Decisions about inmate placement are made by the BOP, and we are not in a position to speak to the circumstances surrounding this transfer. Sean remains focused on moving forward.

When will Diddy get out of prison?

On March 2, 2028, according to the Bureau of Prisons inmate database. In September, the date was Jan. 21, 2028. It moved because he was docked 41 days of good-conduct credit after the perks report, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Here is how that works. Federal inmates can earn up to 54 days of credit for each year of their sentence by following the rules, and the Bureau of Prisons can take those days back as punishment. Combs is serving 50 months, or four years and two months.

He was convicted in July 2025 of transporting people across state lines for prostitution, and acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering. A federal appeals court heard his challenge to the conviction and sentence in April and has not ruled.

What is FCI Allenwood Low?

It is part of a federal complex near Allenwood, Pennsylvania, south of Williamsport, that also holds medium- and high-security prisons. Combs stays at the same security level: Fort Dix is also a low-security prison. His spokesperson called the move from “one low-security facility to another” an “important distinction.”

Low-security prisons house inmates in dormitories, behind double fences. A former Bureau of Prisons investigator who worked at Fort Dix told NBC News it is known as one of the most relaxed prisons in the system, with housing units that are harder to monitor.
