Taylor Frankie Paul Quits ‘Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’: What She Said

• Taylor Frankie Paul says she is leaving The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, the Hulu reality show built around the MomTok group she founded.
• In an Instagram post on Monday, Sept. 21, she said castmates had “collectively” piled on her during the hardest months of her life, and that it had crossed into jokes about her children.
• Hulu has not commented. The post comes as a Utah custody case limits her to 8 hours a week with her kids.

She is done, at least by her own account. Taylor Frankie Paul, 32, the TikTok creator whose 2022 “soft-swinging” confession started the whole MomTok phenomenon, said on Monday that she will not continue with The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

“I don’t desire to move forward like this,” she wrote on Instagram. “I originally was willing to be removed to let them all continue on with less stress and I’m back to that point.”

She blamed the cast. Paul wrote that some of the women “know what I’ve been through,” and still chose to “collectively pile on with their ‘statements,'” knowing there had been “ongoing abuse through the system the last 8 months.”

She also took part of the blame. “I’ve almost convinced myself I’m deserving of all this pain,” she wrote, “and to a certain degree absolutely this is consequences of my actions.”

The post landed days after castmate Mikayla Matthews said publicly that Paul’s return to filming was the “only reason” Matthews was leaving the show herself.

What happened with the drug test and custody?

Paul is in two custody cases in Utah, one with her ex-husband, Tate Paul, the father of her two older children, and one with her ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen, the father of her youngest, a son born in 2024.

According to TMZ, she failed multiple drug tests ordered by the Utah court over a 60-day period, and the court restricted her to 8 hours of parenting time a week. Paul did not address the drug tests directly in Monday’s post.

Both cases grew out of this year’s collapse of her relationship with Mortensen. After a February incident, police investigated domestic violence allegations the two made against each other, and prosecutors declined to file charges. In April, a court ordered them to stay 100 feet apart for three years.

What happened to her season of ‘The Bachelorette’?

It never aired. Paul had been cast as the lead of Season 22, set to premiere on ABC in March. That month, video surfaced of a 2023 fight with Mortensen in which she threw chairs, one of which struck her daughter. ABC canceled the season days later.

The 2023 incident had already been through court. Paul pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in August 2023, under a deal that allowed the charge to be reduced later; it has since been lowered to a class A misdemeanor.

In mid-March, still ABC’s new Bachelorette, she sat down with Good Morning America and was asked about the show’s future. She said she was told only that year that she was an executive producer, and that she did not decide anything:

“I don’t call the shots with production,” she said then. On her future on the series: “Hard to say now, right? … It’s hard to see past this.”

Is Taylor Frankie Paul still on Season 6?

For now, the only answer is hers. Production paused in March and later resumed without her; she returned in a limited capacity in July. Hulu and the show’s producers have not said whether the footage she already shot will air.

How much that matters depends on paperwork that is not public. Reality cast agreements typically give the producer the rights to footage already shot, so a departure does not by itself pull someone out of episodes in the can.

Paul’s own executive producer credit, by her account, did not come with a say in those decisions.
