Who Is Sienna Spiro? The VMAs’ Best New Artist, Her Songs and Tour

A night before her 21st birthday, Sienna Spiro walked off the VMAs stage with a Moon Person. The London singer won Best New Artist at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sept. 27, beating Bella Kay, Cortis, Magnus Ferrell, Malcolm Todd, Myles Smith and Stella Lefty.

“I didn’t think this would happen, so I just have to say thank you so much,” she said. “Thank you to the fans and the people that voted for me. I love you. I can’t believe this.”

Who is Sienna Spiro?

Sienna Spiro is a singer-songwriter from London, born on Sept. 28, 2005. She started posting covers and original songs on TikTok as a teenager, years before signing with Capitol Records.

She left East London Arts & Music, a performing arts school, to make music full-time. “I already had a manager, and I was doing sessions that I was loving,” she told Vogue in July. “I felt like school was holding me back.”

Her sound leans on 1950s and ’60s records: a raspy contralto over horns, strings and piano. Her favorite singer is Frank Sinatra, who was her father’s idol, and she has also named Nina Simone, Etta James, Barbra Streisand and the Ronettes as influences.

By fan vote. Fan voting for most VMA categories closed on Friday, Sept. 25, but Best New Artist stayed open during the live broadcast, so fans could still vote after watching the nominees perform. Spiro sang her single “Great Expectation” earlier in the night, backed by horns, strings and backup singers.

She joins a list of past winners that includes Nirvana, Eminem, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo. In her speech, she thanked her team at Capitol, the women on her crew, her mother and her sister.

Visitor, her first full-length album, came out in July on Capitol Records. It peaked at No. 2 on the U.K. albums chart and No. 9 on the Billboard 200. By July, her music had passed 1.2 billion streams worldwide.

The ’60s look is part of the act, too: the winged eyeliner, the volume in her hair, the vintage dresses.

She has said it comes from the CDs she listened to as a kid, with ’60s singers in winged eyeliner on the covers, and that trying the style made her feel “confident because I’m a very insecure person.”

After the VMAs, she plays Austin City Limits, which runs Oct. 2-4 and Oct. 9-11, then starts her North American headlining tour:
