Mia Goth Files for Divorce From Shia LaBeouf, Asks for Custody of Daughter
The petition puts their separation at July 28, 2025. What she asked for, what happens next under California law and the on-and-off 14 years that led here.

- Mia Goth filed for divorce from Shia LaBeouf in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Oct. 6, four days before what would have been their 10th wedding anniversary.
- The petition lists their date of separation as July 28, 2025, and cites irreconcilable differences.
- She asked for legal and physical custody of their daughter, Isabel, 4, with visitation for LaBeouf, and for no spousal support in either direction.
Mia Goth has filed to end her marriage to Shia LaBeouf. The Pearl and Frankenstein actress, 32, submitted her petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday night, Oct. 6, citing irreconcilable differences.
The couple married on Oct. 10, 2016. According to the filing, they have been separated since July 28, 2025, which confirms what was reported in February, when LaBeouf, 40, was already living in New Orleans. Neither actor has commented on the filing.
What did Mia Goth ask for in the divorce?
Three things stand out in the petition. The first is custody: Goth asked for legal and physical custody of their daughter, Isabel, who was born in March 2022, with visitation rights for LaBeouf.
The two kinds of custody are separate in California. Legal custody is the right to make the big decisions about a child’s schooling, health care and welfare. Physical custody decides where the child lives day to day. Visitation is the schedule for the other parent.
The second is money. Goth asked the court to end its power to award spousal support to either of them, which means neither would pay the other. The third is the date of separation, July 28, 2025, which matters because in California what each spouse earns after that date is generally their own, not shared.

Goth’s career has grown fast since the two married. She led Ti West’s horror trilogy, X, Pearl and MaXXXine, played Elizabeth in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein for Netflix in 2025 and is in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
When did Mia Goth and Shia LaBeouf separate?
This is not their first breakup. The relationship has been on and off for almost 14 years:
- 2012: they meet on the set of Nymphomaniac: Vol. II, Goth’s first film, and start dating that December.
- Oct. 10, 2016: they marry at the Viva Las Vegas wedding chapel, in a ceremony led by an Elvis impersonator.
- 2018: they announce they are divorcing. LaBeouf goes on to date the singer FKA twigs while still legally married.
- 2020: they are back together and seen wearing their wedding rings.
- March 2022: their daughter, Isabel, is born.
- July 28, 2025: the date of separation listed in the petition. LaBeouf later moves to New Orleans.
- Oct. 6, 2026: Goth files for divorce.
The February report of the split came days after LaBeouf was arrested during Mardi Gras in New Orleans. He later pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor counts of simple battery and was sentenced to two years of probation and a court-ordered alcohol class.
What has Shia LaBeouf said about the marriage?
He spoke about it in March, in a long interview with Andrew Callaghan filmed at his New Orleans home for the YouTube series Channel 5. He took the blame for the breakup and said the trust problems started before they tried to have a child.
I made a lot of mistakes early on before we tried to have a baby. I had violated trust in a big, big way.

He said the two had been “deeply unhappy,” that their problems were “impossible” to fix and that they did not want to “be unhappy around the baby.” He also praised Goth, calling her “incredible” and “10 out of 10.”

“We’re in a good spot,” he said then. “We’re trying to figure out co-parenting, and we’re good. Even through all this, she gives me grace.”
The filing came a day after a separate case closed. On Monday, FKA twigs told a court that she and LaBeouf had settled her lawsuit over the nondisclosure agreement in their 2025 abuse settlement, and that its nondisclosure provisions are now void. LaBeouf had denied many of her abuse allegations.
Here is the full interview. He talks about the marriage about four and a half minutes in.
What happens next in the divorce?
LaBeouf has 30 days from the day he is formally served to file a response, in which he can agree with Goth’s requests or ask for something different, including on custody.
If the two settle, a judge signs off on the agreement. If they don’t, the court decides, and the standard in custody is the child’s best interest.
There is also a minimum wait. California law does not let a marriage end until six months after the other spouse is served, however quickly the paperwork moves. Even an uncontested case started this week would not be final before spring 2027.
The take: on paper, this reads like a filing meant to close, not to fight. Goth asked for no support from LaBeouf and none for him, and the split had been public since February. The one request that asks something of him is custody, and his response will set the pace.
