  • The Ninja PREPi is a compact food processor whose bowls double as food storage containers. It went on sale Oct. 2.
  • The 5-in-1 model (PN301) costs $179.99. The 6-in-1 (PN351) adds a dicing kit for $229.99.
  • Both are sold at SharkNinja.com and Amazon. The pink version is on SharkNinja.com only.

Ninja has a new kitchen gadget built around one bowl. The PREPi, which went on sale Friday (Oct. 2), chops, slices, shreds, purées and crinkle-cuts food in a bowl that then goes straight to the table or into the fridge with a lid on.

It comes in two versions, $50 apart. Here’s what each one includes, which colors you can get where, and which one to buy.

What is the Ninja PREPi?

It’s a small food processor with a twist on the layout. The 500-watt motor sits on top of the bowl instead of underneath it. When the prep is done, you lift the motor off, snap on a storage lid, and the bowl becomes the container.

Ninja is pitching it at people who skip cooking because of the cleanup. A regular food processor leaves you a work bowl to wash and the food to move into something else. Here, the bowl you chop in is the one you serve from and store in.

Even a simple meal can feel like a project once you factor in the prep and the cleanup.

The machine is about 10 inches tall and 9.3 inches wide, according to Ninja, small enough to leave on the counter. The brand says the 500-watt motor delivers the performance of its full-size BZ601 food processor.

What comes in the box?

Both versions include the 500-watt motor base, a 5-cup bowl and a 7-cup bowl, each with its own storage lid, plus three cutting tools:

  • Chop/Purée Blade: one blade for chunky salsa or smooth sauces, depending on how long you run it.
  • Reversible Slice & Shred Disc: slices on one side; flip it over to shred cheese or cabbage.
  • Crinkle Cut Disc: cuts the wavy, ridged slices you see on crinkle fries, for potatoes, vegetables and fruit.

For slicing, shredding and crinkle cuts, you push food down the feed chute into the spinning disc. The PREPi’s chute has three parts, which Ninja says fit ingredients of different sizes for more control and cleaner, more consistent cuts.

Ninja PREPi 5-in-1 vs. 6-in-1: which one should you buy?

The 5-in-1 (PN301), $179.99

This is the base model: chop, purée, slice, shred and crinkle. It comes in four colorways: Midnight Blue & Mango, Pink Peppercorn, Stone & Moss and Onyx & Apricot. It’s the right pick if you mostly make salads, slaw, salsa and chips.

The 6-in-1 with dicing (PN351), $229.99

The 6-in-1 adds Ninja’s dicing kit, for even cubes of potato, onion or fruit. On SharkNinja.com it comes in one color, Copper & Teal. Everything else in the box matches the 5-in-1.

Buying the bundle is cheaper than adding the kit later. Sold separately, the PREPi dicing kit costs $59.99 on SharkNinja.com, so the 5-in-1 plus the kit comes to $239.98, about $10 more than the PN351. On Oct. 5, the standalone kit was out of stock.

Where can you buy the Ninja PREPi?

SharkNinja.com, where the PREPi went on sale Oct. 2, carries all four 5-in-1 colors and the Copper & Teal 6-in-1. Amazon also sells the PREPi, shipped and sold by Amazon: the 5-in-1 in Midnight Blue, Black and Stone, and the 6-in-1 with the dicing kit.

The pink PREPi wasn’t listed on Amazon on Oct. 5, so SharkNinja.com is the place to get it. On SharkNinja.com, reviewers gave the PREPi 4.8 out of 5 stars across 251 reviews. Extra 5-cup bowls with a lid and spindle list for $24.99 there.
