Burger King Hello Kitty Meal: The 6 Toys and the Odds of the Gold Kitty
Six Sanrio figures in Burger King crowns, one of them a gold Hello Kitty that turns up in about 5% of the boxes. What comes in the meal, who each character is and how many meals it takes to find the gold one.

- Burger King’s Hello Kitty and Friends King Jr. Meal is at participating restaurants nationwide since Tuesday, Oct. 20, for a limited time.
- Each meal comes with one of six toys in a mystery blind box: Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll, Keroppi and a gold Hello Kitty.
- Burger King’s fine print says about 5% of the toys are the gold one, roughly 1 in 20 meals.
Burger King‘s Hello Kitty and Friends King Jr. Meal arrived at participating restaurants nationwide on Tuesday, Oct. 20, with six exclusive toys sealed in mystery blind boxes. One of them is a gold Hello Kitty, and the chain’s own promo art says it makes up about 5% of the toys.
The meal runs for a limited time, while supplies last. Burger King did not give an end date, and its promo art notes that “toy selection varies” from restaurant to restaurant.
What comes in the Burger King Hello Kitty meal?
The same King Jr. Meal, dressed for Sanrio. Families pick one main, one side and a drink, and it all comes in a Hello Kitty and Friends bag:
- Main: 4- or 6-piece chicken nuggets, a hamburger or a cheeseburger
- Side: fries or applesauce
- A kids’ drink
- One mystery toy in a blind box
- A paper Hello Kitty crown, while supplies last
The promo art labels the meal “for kids 12 and under” and offers a choice of “Toy or Treat.” Nearly all Burger King restaurants are run by independent franchisees, so the price changes by location; the BK app shows the local one.

Who are the six Hello Kitty and Friends toys?
Every figure wears a gold Burger King crown, and three hold BK food: Hello Kitty carries a burger, Cinnamoroll a drink with a straw and Keroppi a BK box of chicken nuggets. My Melody and Kuromi come empty-handed. The gold Hello Kitty, in overalls and a bow, waves.
For parents new to the cast: Sanrio created Hello Kitty in 1974. My Melody, the white rabbit in a pink hood, followed in 1975, and Keroppi, the big-eyed frog, in 1988. Cinnamoroll, the white puppy with long ears, arrived in 2001, and Kuromi, My Melody’s rival in a black jester hood, in 2005.
“We love seeing Hello Kitty and Friends get the royal treatment at Burger King, with each character sporting their own iconic BK crown,” said Jill Koch, chief brand officer of Sanrio, Inc., in the announcement.
How rare is the gold Hello Kitty?
About 1 in 20. The fine print on Burger King’s launch art says “approximately five percent of the toy premiums are golden-colored Hello Kitty toys,” and that all toys “have the same value.” Since the boxes are sealed, there is no way to choose one at the counter.
At 5% a meal, the odds add up slowly. Do the math and a family that buys 10 meals has about a 40% chance of finding at least one gold Hello Kitty. It takes 14 meals for the chance to pass 50%, and 45 meals to reach 90%.
Completing the set takes longer. If the five regular figures are packed in equal numbers, about 19% each, a collector needs an average of about 12 meals to get all five, and about 23 to finish the set with the gold one.
“To celebrate our partnership, a limited number of golden Hello Kitty toys will be included in our six-toy lineup,” said Joel Yashinsky, chief marketing officer of Burger King US&C.
Where is the Golden Claw Machine?
At one restaurant, for one day: the Burger King at 10014 Paramount Blvd. in Downey, Calif., on Friday, Oct. 23, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT, or until the prizes run out. Fans who buy a King Jr. Meal get a turn at a gold claw machine filled with Hello Kitty toys.
One guest could grab the top prize: a one-of-one Hello Kitty figurine plated in 14K gold. The official rules are posted at the restaurant, and they include a way to play without buying anything.

The prize contest is open to legal residents of the 50 states and Washington, D.C., except Rhode Island, who are 18 or older, with one entry per person. The meal is for kids 12 and under, but the person working the claw has to be an adult.
