Kindred Bravely BareBond Nursing Bra: How It Works, Styles and Price

• Kindred Bravely launched BareBond on Sept. 22: nursing bras made of cotton with bonded, no-sew construction, so there are no wires and no stitched seams.
• The brand says it is the first nursing bra built that way in cotton. Its patent-pending SoftFuse ribbing does the supporting.

No wires, no seams. Kindred Bravely, the Oceanside, California, maternity and nursing brand, launched BareBond on Tuesday, Sept. 22, a collection of cotton nursing bras that are bonded instead of sewn. The brand calls it the first nursing bra built with bonded, no-sew construction in cotton.

The pitch is aimed at a trade-off most nursing moms know. “Breastfeeding moms have always had to choose between comfort and support,” Kindred Bravely CEO Carrie Welch said in the launch announcement. “We built BareBond to close that gap.”

What is the BareBond nursing bra?

An everyday wire-free bra for pregnancy, postpartum and nursing, made of cotton the brand describes as having “a silky feel and luxe weight.” The edges are scalloped, the closure at the back is bonded too, and the cups have removable pads.

The shape is meant to change with the body. Kindred Bravely says the bra adapts through pregnancy and after birth “without losing its shape or support.”

How does a bonded, no-sew bra work?

In a sewn bra, panels of fabric are stitched together, and every seam is a ridge that sits against the skin and can show through a T-shirt. A bonded garment joins its layers with heat and an adhesive film instead of thread, so the edges lie flat and there is nothing to press or poke.

Without a wire, something else has to hold the shape. In BareBond, that is SoftFuse, a patent-pending technology that, according to the brand, places ribbing strategically across the fabric for targeted support and lift. The ribbing is part of the fabric itself, which is how the brand says it adds support “without added bulk.”

One practical note from the brand’s own fit guide: BareBond “may feel snug at first,” and the bonded construction is designed to relax and conform to the body with wear.

How do you nurse or pump in BareBond?

With one hand. Every bra style has a nursing clip at the top of each strap; unhook it and the cup folds down, then clip it back when the baby is done. The clips are built into the strap, so from the outside the bra looks like a regular one.

All three bras are also listed as compatible with wearable breast pumps, the kind that sit inside the bra instead of hanging from tubes, so the same bra can hold one.

Which BareBond bra is right for you?

It depends on the neckline you wear and your cup size. All three come in sizes S to 1X and use the same bonded cotton and SoftFuse ribbing.

• The Maternity & Nursing Bra is the everyday shape, with a hook-and-eye back. It is the only style offered in two fits, Regular (cups B to D) and Busty (E to H), in Black, Coastal Navy and Sand.
• The Plunge has a deep V for lower-cut tops, tees and dresses. It comes in the Regular fit, B to D, in Garnet, Sand and Black.
• The Bralette pulls on over the head, with a smooth back and no hook-and-eye, for lounging as much as for going out. Regular fit, B to D, in Sand and Black.

The collection also includes matching bonded cotton underwear in brief, hipster and thong cuts, with a 100% cotton gusset, sold singly or in a three-pair bundle. For hygiene reasons, the brand does not accept returns or exchanges on underwear.

Bonded construction in cotton is a first for this category, and it’s the biggest leap we’ve made in a decade of designing for pregnant, nursing, and pumping moms.
