Who Won ‘AGT’ 2026? Nene Royal, 16, Is the First Winner From Thailand

A rocker takes the crown. Nene Royal, 16, won Season 21 of America’s Got Talent on Wednesday (Sept. 23), after viewers picked her over magician Geno Ploeger in the last two. Host Terry Crews announced the result at the end of NBC’s two-hour finale.

She is the first act from Thailand to win the show. “I’m very happy,” she said on stage, thanking the people who voted for her and the judges.

Who won America’s Got Talent 2026?

Nene Royal. Crews narrowed the 10 finalists to a top five by pairing acts and eliminating one from each pair on the spot. Singer Lai Noelle, 14, who had two Golden Buzzers, went out in her pairing against aerialist Veronika Goroshkova.

The final order: Goroshkova in fifth, the light-up dance crew Royal Lasers in fourth, the South Korean magic group Hundred Fingers in third, Ploeger, 22, in second and Nene Royal in first. Ploeger reached the final on viewer votes alone, without a Golden Buzzer.

Who is Nene Royal?

A teenager from the island of Phuket, in southern Thailand, who picked up the guitar at 7. “My biggest dream is I really want to be superstar on tour,” she told the judges at her audition.

That audition, a punk-rock cover of the Cranberries’ 1994 hit “Zombie,” became the most-viewed audition of the season across YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, according to NBC. Howie Mandel then brought her back for his Judges’ Callbacks, where she sang Muse’s “Hysteria.”

In the live quarterfinals, she played Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun,” and Mel B hit her Live Golden Buzzer. The buzzer sent Nene straight to the final, so she skipped the semifinals entirely.

What did Nene Royal sing in the AGT final?

The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army,” on Tuesday, Sept. 22, in a dress with “Nene Thailand” written across it. She reworked the riff and added a guitar solo of her own.

The judges lined up behind her. Mel B said: “If you don’t win this, I am going to sell Howie’s new house.” Mandel called her “the biggest, most talented, most viral talent to be on that stage.”

Guest judge KSI, filling in for Simon Cowell, said it was his first time seeing her perform: “And I am a fan.”

On results night she was on stage twice before the win: with Linkin Park for “The Emptiness Machine,” and with the Mexican rock band The Warning for “Kerosene.”

Does the AGT winner really get $1 million?

Not all at once. Under the show’s official rules, the $1 million is paid as an annuity over 40 years, about $25,000 a year before taxes. The winner can instead take the “present cash value” of that annuity in one payment.

That lump sum is far smaller, because money paid decades from now is worth less today, and how much less depends on interest rates. At a 5% rate, forty yearly payments of $25,000 are worth about $429,000 today, before taxes.

It is the same trade-off lottery jackpots offer: the headline number is the total of the payments, not what lands in the winner’s account on day one.
