Tate McRae’s TATE 01 Perfume: Price, Notes and When It Arrives at Ulta

• Tate McRae launched her first fragrance, TATE 01, on Oct. 1. It is on sale at tatebytm.com in sizes from 10 ml ($30) to 100 ml ($82).
• Ulta Beauty is the exclusive U.S. retailer: Ulta.com gets it on Oct. 16, and more than 1,500 stores on Oct. 25.
• The scent opens with bergamot and clary sage, moves into white florals and settles into amber, tonka bean and sandalwood.

Tate McRae has a perfume. TATE 01, her first fragrance, went on sale Thursday, Oct. 1, at tatebytm.com. The singer made it with the fragrance company Scent Beauty, and it reaches Ulta later this month.

How much does Tate McRae’s perfume cost?

TATE 01 is an eau de parfum sold in sizes from 10 ml to 100 ml, priced from $30 to $82. The brand’s announcement gives that range rather than a price for each size. The store lists the 100 ml bottle at $82.

Shipping on tatebytm.com is free on orders of $95 or more. The store is open to shoppers in the U.S. and Canada, with pre-orders for the UK and Europe.

Where and when can you buy TATE 01?

The perfume launches in three steps, and Ulta is the only U.S. retailer announced so far:

• Oct. 1: tatebytm.com, the brand’s own store.
• Oct. 16: Ulta.com.
• Oct. 25: Ulta Beauty stores nationwide, more than 1,500 locations.

The announcement calls Ulta “the nation’s largest beauty retailer.” Its vice president of merchandising, Linda Suliafu, said the fragrance “feels like a natural extension of Tate herself.”

What does TATE 01 smell like?

The brand describes a three-stage scent:

• Top: sparkling bergamot and airy clary sage.
• Heart: “luminous white florals.”
• Base: warm amber, creamy tonka bean, sandalwood and soft woods.

It is “anchored by ISO E Super,” in the brand’s words. That is a synthetic aroma ingredient with a smooth, woody character. The brand says it reacts to each wearer’s skin chemistry, so the scent reads a little differently from person to person. The brand calls this a “second-skin” fragrance.

Two perfumers from the fragrance house Givaudan, Adriana Medina and Antoine Maisondieu, created it. “We created a signature fragrance that embodies the scent of a girl who owns every room without asking for permission,” they said in the announcement.

McRae said she likes to wear it for rehearsals because “the scent warms up and moves with my body, allowing me to feel confident.”

What do we know about the bottle and the campaign?

The bottle is sculptural glass that the brand says has a “tactile weight.” The global campaign was shot by photographer Mario Sorrenti and, in the brand’s words, channels the mood of ’90s supermodel culture.

The “01” in the name points to more. Scent Beauty’s founder and CEO, Stephen Mormoris, called the launch “the first step in building a long-term fragrance brand.”

According to the announcement, the launch follows McRae’s third album, So Close To What, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and a sold-out Miss Possessive Tour of more than 80 dates.
