Patrick Clancy on ’60 Minutes’: Forgiving Lindsay, and a New Family

• Patrick Clancy gave his first TV interview to 60 Minutes on Sunday, Sept. 20, 16 days after his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial ended in a mistrial.

Patrick Clancy sat for his first television interview on Sunday night, and he did it with his wife beside him.

On 60 Minutes, the father whose three children were killed in their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023 spoke to correspondent Ross Douthat about the day it happened, the trial and the life he has built since.

That he did what he could, and that he carries the rest. Asked whether he is angry at himself, he answered twice.

I think I did the best I could with what I had at the time, and I live with the outcome. I live with it every day.

He described the days in the hospital with his youngest, 8 months old, who survived the first night. “Just give me one kid,” he remembered thinking. The baby died in his arms.

He also said there was a time, afterward, when he “didn’t think I would live to see my 35th birthday,” and that he had been “completely fine with it.”

Days after the killings, he had asked the public to “forgive Lindsay, as I have.” He told Douthat he wrote it after seeing headlines calling her a “baby murderer” and a “monster.” Lindsay, he said, told him the day “felt like a dream.”

Who is Patrick Clancy’s wife?

Dr. Rachel Danis, a fertility doctor. He moved to New York to grieve anonymously, and they met at a run club there in January 2024. They married in New York in April 2026.

She told the story of their first coffee. She saw children on his phone’s wallpaper and asked who they were. “Those are my kids,” he said. Then: “They died.”

Asked whether they want children of their own, Danis answered with one word: “Yeah.” Clancy added that he “can’t wait to tell them about their brothers and sister.”

What happened in Lindsay Clancy’s trial?

Lindsay Clancy was charged with murder. Her lawyers do not dispute that she killed the children; they argued she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and is not criminally responsible. Patrick was the prosecution’s first witness.

On Sept. 4, after the jury of nine women and three men could not reach a verdict, Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial. The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office has not said whether it will try her again. A status hearing is set for Sept. 29.

She remains at Tewksbury Hospital. Clancy told 60 Minutes that online theories suggesting he was involved are “a huge distraction from what really matters here, which is perinatal mental health.” His lawyers have said they will take legal action against people spreading them.
